The Seniors will face Liatroim at St Patrick’s Park, Newcastle, on Sunday 15 June at 3.30pm in their first group game of the 2014 Trócaire Intermediate Football Championship. The game will be preceded by the meeting of An Riocht and Shamrocks at 2.00pm. On Saturday 14 June we will host the double header of games between Aghaderg & Bredagh (2.00pm) and Atticall & Saul (3.30pm) writes Eugene O’Boyle.

The Reserves are provisionally scheduled to travel to face Liatroim on Sunday evening at 6.00pm.

The Minors had a 4-15 to 2-9 win over Dromara at Pairc Naomh Eoin on Saturday. They are next in action on Tuesday 17 June when they travel to Drumaness.

The Under 16’s narrowly lost a high scoring encounter to Longstone on Sunday by 4 points. The final score was St Johns 6-12 Longstone 8-10. The St Johns scorers were Owen Moag 4-1, Tiernan Noade 1-7, Callum Cairns 1-1, Conor Moag 0-1, Sean O’Neill 0-1 and Andrew Gilmore 0-1. They are next in action when they travel to face Darragh Cross on Thursday 19 June.

The Under 14’s had a big win over Ardglass in their rescheduled fixture last Wednesday. They travelled to Kilclief on Monday 9 June and are at home to Teconnaught 7 days later.

The Under 12’s travelled to Bright on Sunday to face a Bright side intent on staying top of the league. Bright chose to play with the strong wind in the first half and built up a large lead which unfortunately the Johnnies were unable to turn around in the second half.

Rory Ward and Sam O’Connor were tight in defence. Amy Doran and Damien worked tirelessly while Ryan chipped away at the scores and his passing was excellent.  Again Eoin and Conor McMullan proved to be great cover when introduced. Final score was Bright 5-12 St John’s 2-11. Keep up the great work boys and girls. Next Sunday they travel to face Bredagh.

Action Cancer’s mobile unit, the Big Bus, is coming to St Johns Drumnaquoile on 21 June 2014.  The Big Bus provides two services which are now available to book: If you are a woman aged 40-49 or over 70 you are eligible to make an appointment for breast screening on the unit.  The charity is the only place in Northern Ireland for women outside of NHS age range to avail of a breast screening for free so this is a great opportunity.  The screening takes only a few minutes and for the majority of women provides peace of mind. MOT Health Checks are open to all regardless of age and gender and they are a great way to get a current picture of your health. The check tales about 20 minutes and you will be able to choose from a variety of options including blood pressure, cholesterol levels and peak flow.  You will also stand on the body composition scales to receive a print out of details such as muscle mass, hydration levels, fat around your organs, and BMI.  The health promotion officer carrying out your assessment will be able to provide advice and information about lifestyle improvements and cancer prevention. Call Action Cancer on 90 80 3344 or visit www.actioncancer.org

to make your appointment for either service.

St Francis’ Primary School is holding a quiz night in St Johns clubrooms on Friday 20 June at 9.30pm. Light refreshments available and all are welcome.
