Galbraith Concerned About Vermin In Vianstown Park

Cllr Conor Galbraith says rats in Vianstown Park in Downpatick must be addressed

SDLP Downpatrick Councillor Conor Galbraith has called for a lasting solution to address the issue of vermin in Vianstown Park in the town.

The Downpatrick Councillor said: “As someone who was born and raised in Downpatrick, I know how proud people here are of their homes and their town.

“I was alerted to the issue of vermin being seen in parts of Vianstown Park and that they have been able to access properties in the area, which has understandably left many residents shaken and upset.

Downpatrick Councillor Conor Galbraith shows of a rat at arms length from the Vianstown Park area in Downpatrick.

“There is an urgent need to find out how these vermin are accessing the properties and that all landowners ensure that access points are blocked up.

“There are agencies who are responsible for the clearing of land here and ensuring that grass areas are maintained, and this must be done as well.

“Local people living here look after their properties and gardens, but they cannot do this with one hand tied behind their back if the access points to properties are accessible to such vermin.

“I have been working with several residents to help clear their property of the rats, and now we need to see a concerted effort to help get rid of them once and for all.

“At this time of year when there is lots of food about and lots of children playing in the area, the last thing anyone needs is to have rats running about the place.”
