Castlewellan Fair is Back for Bank Holiday Monday
The ever-popular Castlewellan Fair is taking place on Monday 6 May (May Day Bank Holiday) from 9am-5pm with loads of free family-friendly activities to keep everyone entertained.
Organised by Newry Mourne and Down District Council this year’s May Day Fair event is set to be the best yet, with an even bigger choice of have-a-go attractions.
The town of Castlewellan will also see a range of traders selling their wares and be sure to take some time out for some retail therapy with many of the town’s independent shops and businesses offering Spring Fair special offers.
Everyone can browse the shops while enjoying live music, dance, children’s entertainment and a variety of outdoor games.
This year will also see Artisan makers and creators offering everything from knitwear, jewellery, paintings, woodcraft and photography to some of the tastiest artisan food products and coffee.
Activities are located throughout the main street and on both the Upper and Lower Squares Castlewellan, adjacent to Castlewellan Library (formally known as The Market House).
This iconic area is home to market trading from bygone days until the present where traders sell their wares to the visiting public.
Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Valerie Harte said: “Castlewellan May Fair has proven to be a very popular addition to our events calendar.
“It brings a great atmosphere to the town. We would love you to join us this year and enjoy a great family day out with us.”
Some of the key activities will take place on Bank Holiday Monday throughout the day on the Stage in Castlewellan Lower Square with Irish traditional music will be provided by members from the Newcastle Comhaltas.
One of the key highlights will also include a performance from local singer Colin Montgomery from Killyleagh.
The fun continues throughout the day with a range of family-friendly activities and entertainment.
New for 2024 is a special appearance from the Jenna Finnegan Dance Company that will feature young dancers who will perform on the day at the Lower Square. Face-painting will also be available for any children who fancy getting into the May Day spirit.
Public car parking will not be available in Upper Square for the duration of Castlewellan Fair.
Free Car Parking is available at Bann Road, Castlewellan.
