Drag Racing Coming To The Old Airfield At Bishopscourt

Drag racing day to take place at Bishopscourt Airfield outside Downpatrick in County Down

There will be an adrenaline-filled drag racing day at the former Bishopscourt Airfield just a few miles outside Downpatrick in County Down on Saturday 8th June 2024.

Running from 10am to 6.30pm, this non-competitive day is a great way to burn up some rubber safely on the track writes Jim Masson.

The BDD team said: “It’s a straight run and some drivers have put a lot of effort into boosting the performances of their cars. There will be plenty of adrenalin-filled runs to keep the spectators on their toes.

“The races are head-to-head to see who is the fastest down the ¼ mile strip.

“The drag strip is easy to get to from Downpatrick. You just drive towards Ballyhornan up the Ardglass Road and turn left towards Strangford and you will see it signposted about a mile on the left. It’s the old airfield entrance.

“The meeting this Saturday is a fun day to just ride and drive. And if support continues to grow we will eventually be able to make it a competitive championship event.

“We are always looking for local support. It draws a lot of visitors into the area and is good for tourism and business.

“But we are also very keen to look after the environment and we have completed a huge clean up around the old airfield and the area and it looks really well now.

“We know there are people across the North who love drag racing, and in the South there is a very strong and a growing following of drift racing enthusiasts who attend drift meetings and take part in the events.

Drag racing action is coming to Bisopscourt Old Airfield on Saturday 8th June. A great fun day out!

“We are taking bookings for the event on Saturday 8th June.

There will be another fun drift and diff day on 23rd June but he biggest day of the season at Bishopscourt will be on 10-11th August when the Irish Drift Championship Round Four comes to Bishopscourt.

“There will be entrants in this competitive event from Scotland, England and the South of Ireland. It will be a very busy couple of days and a premier event for drift racing.

“We see hundreds attending our meetings and the numbers are growing from one event to the next.

“We have plenty of space to welcome campervans, caravans and even camping for those travelling far and wide and not to forget there is catering on site too to ensure everyone is fuelled up for this great family event!”.
