Trainor expresses concern about state of local roads.
SDLP Downpatrick Councillor John Trainor has expressed concern about the state of local roads that pose a safety risk to commuters.
Cllr Trainor commented: “Recently I’ve been inundated with messages about the sorry state of our roads across South Down. Road surfaces across many rural areas have rapidly deteriorated and we have potholes as big as paddling pools in some places.
“Rural roads seem to be falling further and further down the pecking order.
“Rural communities deserve as good quality road infrastructure as much as anywhere else.
“The current ‘patchwork quilt’ approach costs more money in the long-term than carrying out the full resurfacing of roads that are substandard. Recent figures highlighting that over £1.2m paid in compensation to motorists is testament to this.
“I’ll be continuing to report any problems flagged to me by the public. I’ll be asking for the road improvements and repairs that are needed across the area in the coming weeks.”
