The Last Five Years is running in the Lytic Theatre in Belfast from 24 June – 4 July 2015.
‘The Last Five Years’ by Jason Robert Brown is presented by Blunt Fringe Productions, whose recent productions at the Lyric Theatre include ‘The World Goes ‘Round’ and ‘Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris’.
This is a beautiful, emotionally powerful musical about Jamie, a talented up and coming novelist who falls in love with Cathy, a struggling actress and takes place over a five year period. Their story is told entirely through songs but with a clever device; all of Cathy’s songs begin at the end of their marriage and move backwards in time while Jamie’s songs start at the beginning of their affair and move forward to the end of their marriage. They physically meet on stage only once, at their wedding.
The show opened off-Broadway in 2002 and that year won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics. A film adaptation starring Oscar nominated Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan was released in the US in February 2015, with rumours of a UK release before the summer.
Starring Fra Fee (Les Miserables, Follies, Candide, Dirty Dancing) and Amy Lennox (recently announced as female lead in Kinky Boots, and played Doralee in 9To5 UK tour last year).
The show is directed by Stephen Whitson (currently Associate Director for Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Barnum) and presented by arrangement with JOSEF WEINBERGER LIMITED on behalf of MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL of New York.
