Local County Down company Sign2Music which specialises in children’s party entertainment has been crowned one of the best in the UK in the country’s leading parenting awards.

The Sign2Music Baby and Toddler Music and Signing parties have become very popular across County Down especially in the past year. The business was voted winner as the Northern Ireland region’s best children’s party entertainment in the national party awards from the UK’s largest parenting site, Netmums.com
Dubbed the UK’s ‘Parenting Oscars’, more than a million parents and childcarers were eligible to vote for the huge UK-wide prize.
But Sign2Music, run by local Deirdre McLaughlin, beat hundreds of rival businesses from right across the area to win the prestigious award. As a winner Sign2Music will now get free advertising on the parenting site and a special certificate as well as the knowledge that they are a netmums’ favourite.
Deirdre McLaughlin, who lives near Downpatrick, set up Sign2Music in 2007 after having experienced the positive benefits of teaching her youngest daughter, Cara, to use sign language. In her first year, Cara amazingly mastered around 70 pre-verbal signs which helped make her child care that much more easy.
Since this initial experience, Deirdre, a psychology masters graduate, has grown Sign2Music throughout Northern Ireland, delivering classes for babies and toddlers, sessions and training for nurseries, schools and preschools and, of course, parties. Having studied this aspect of signing from leading American consultants and specialists, Deirdre has led the path here in Northern Ireland.
Deirdre added: “Winning this Award is fantastic news and we are absolutely delighted. It makes all the hard work worthwhile and proves that a local business like ours can get national recognition. What we are most proud of is that people love what we do so much that they nominated and voted for us. The national Netmums awards were set up to recognize the best firms in the growing children’s party market. Categories included favourite Party Entertainers, Party Suppliers and Venues – with winners in each category being crowned the best in each of 12 national regions.
