Jim Shannon MP for Strangford has called for an inquiry into the abuses that took place Kincora Boys Home throughout the seventies and eighties.
He has asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Theresa May, at Westminster last week whether Kincora would be included in child abuse inquires being carried out in Northern Ireland, and requested that if it was not, could it be included in a national inquiry.
“Her response was very positive and she assured me that everything would be looked into, nothing would slip through the net and that the national inquiry panel would be happy to liaise with the Northern Ireland Inquiry panel to ensure this would be the case,” he added.
“This is something that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. The most horrible and wicked abuse of children took place at Kincora, a place that should have provided refuge and care. Instead it has left many young people scarred for life. Now I hope this will at least give some of those young people closure, and hopefully they will see that justice is being done.”
