SERC Media Students Visit Q Radio
Media students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) have been getting an insight into the fast-paced world of radio with a fact-finding visit to Q Radio’s headquarters in Belfast.
Level 3 Creative Media Production students from Bangor, Downpatrick, and Lisburn Campuses were invited to the studios in an exciting new partnership, in which students visit Q Radio and key staff from the network visit SERC to learn about Q Radio’s target audience.
Colm McAlinden, Lecturer in Creative Media (Broadcast Journalism), said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students, not only to meet key people from the industry, but to see how programmes are planned and put together for broadcast.
“They will learn about the different roles in radio broadcast and can pick the brains of the people working in the industry, day in and day out.
“It is a fabulous insight which could be the deciding factor, in some of the many pathways available in broadcast media.”
“Media students will also benefit from Q Radio masterclasses later this year, and will have the opportunity to produce their own demo programme prepared to fit with Q Radio’s target audience.
“The station team has very kindly produced some bespoke radio jingles to help the students achieve the professional sound in their demos and will offer them feedback on what they have produced.”
Colm added: “This industry participation will serve the students well, whether they are set to continue their studies or move into employment within the media industry.”
