Alliance elected representatives enjoy tea and scones at the Knockevin Roots Café in their school in Castlewellan
Alliance MLA Andrew McMurray and Slieve Croob Councillor Helena Young, visited the Roots Café at Knockevin Special School and tasted some of the delights.
The Café is open every Tuesday from 10.00-1130am and is staffed by pupils from the school.
Councillor Helena Young said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be welcomed by the Head Boy and Head Girl of Knockevin Senior School at Castlewellan after being invited to visit.

“We were also invited to the Roots Café and had a cup of coffee and a scone with pupils and teachers from Knockevin”.
“It was an absolute joy and a pleasure to be at the Assembly at Knockevin School on Friday,” added South Down MLA Andrew McMurray.
He said: “Members of the Young Enterprise Team showed us their crafts which they will be selling at the Big Market ’25.

“They would give Lord Alan Sugar a run for his money. The School Council took time to question Helena and I on our different roles as elected representatives as well as telling us of the manifesto pledges we stood on to be elected.
“It also provided an opportunity to engage with the teachers and senior staff team at the school to understand the challenges being faced within the school.
“I will certainly go back to Stormont and address the issues and challenges faced by the school and wider Special Educational Needs (SEN) sector.”
