Ardglass FC Overpower Newcastle Swifts

The Newcastle and District Amateur Football League,

Harry Clarke Cup Round 2,

Venue: The Meadow, 1 2 25,

Ardglass FCxa0xa07xa0xa00xa0xa0Newcastle Town Swifts.

It was a cold cold afternoon at the Meadow for this Harry Clarke 2ndxa0round cup tie but right from the start Ardglass imposed themselves on this game and once they scored after just 6 minutes through a superb right foot volley from Ardglass forward Jamie Cusack they never let up writes Cyril McKinney.

Both sides found it difficult to deal with a strong cross field wind but when they got the ball down on the deck Newcastle struggled to deal with the Ardglass passing game.

Malachy Crangle and Corey Mahon kept things tight at the back while John Beattie and Aidy Watson pulled the strings in the middle and along with the impressive Cusack and Mick Magee Ardglass never looked under any threat all afternoon.

Cusack got his second on 28 minutes with a downward header at the back post. As half-time approached Aidy Watson threaded a great ball through down the left channel to send Shea Dorrian through on goal and he showed great composure and slid the ball past the advancing Newcastle keeper to make it 3-0 to Ardglass at the break.

Six minutes into the second half Mick Magee chased down a high ball in the Newcastle penalty boxxa0xa0and got the better of the defender and powered home to make it 4-0.

Newcastle enjoyed some good possession and Ardglass keeper James Crangle had to react smartly to deal with a shot from Newcastle striker Martin Devlin on 58 minutes and a header from Daniel Cunningham minutes later.
