Four of this year’s biggest local comedies are coming to the Down Arts Centre and Newcastle Centre.
The popular shows ‘History of the Peace (accordin’ to my ma!)’ ‘Handbag Positive’, ‘Ché Guevara’s Night Off’ and ‘Maggie’s Feg Run’, have all been scheduled for two nights each in order to meet the high demand from customers who are hopeful of catching these hilarious shows.
The season of comedy will be kicking off on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May with, ‘History of the Peace (accordin’ to my ma!)’. This comedy extravaganza is the sequel to the extremely successful, ‘History of the Troubles (accordin’ to my da)’ and tells the peaceful tale of street protests, riots, guns, bombings and more riots. Karen Reid is a Belfast community worker, struggling to keep house and family together in the face of Northern Ireland’s unique form of peace. Through the 1994 ceasefires, the Good Friday Agreement, the Chuckle Brothers and the ‘fleg’ protests, she fervently believes in a new Northern Ireland. Thankfully, Karen has the ‘total support’ of her loyal band of friends.
On 10 June, ‘Handbag Positive’ will come to town. This brand new production from Joseph Rae Productions is written by Donna O’Connor, best known as the co-writer of ‘A Night with George’ and stars ‘Give My Head Peace’ actress, Alexandra Ford and Christina Nelson as two former best friends that shared everything from their Bay City Roller trousers to boyfriends. In the dark days of the late 1970’s they sang shangalang and they ran with the gang but as time went on they have drifted apart, until fate reunites them in middle age. ‘Handbag Positive’ is sure to be a hilarious night out.
Brassneck, the multi award winning Production Company that brought you the smash hit shows, ‘The Holy, Holy Bus’ and ‘Man in the Moon’ are back with their brand new production, ‘Ché Guevara’s Night Off’ starring Broadway and West End star Ryan Molly (Jersey Boys) which will visit the Down Arts Centre on 17 and 18 June.
Closing off the superb summer season is the show everyone has been waiting for, the last instalment of the trilogy, Maggie is back, worse than ever and she is heading to Benidorm. ‘Maggie’s Feg Run’ follows popular characters, Maggie and Big Sally-Ann who are on top form as they head to Benidorm on a ‘Feg Run’ to smuggle cigarettes home and sell for a profit. This hysterical comedy is not to be missed and is sure to be a highlight of the season.
