Revitalisation Of Banbridge Shop Fronts A Success Says Storey

Social Development Minister Storey MLA has announced further funding for the Banbridge Revitalisation Project which is currently ongoing within the Town Centre.

The aim of the Revitalisation Project is to support existing traders in the development of their businesses, promote the area as a destination for shoppers and improve the attractiveness of the shop frontages.

dn_screenThe Department for Social Development has provided a total of £222,069 for a wide range of improvements including; free wifi, arts festivals, artist’s workshops, shutter and window graphics, signage and a very successful shop front improvement scheme.

Minister Storey said: “Banbridge is an important regional town providing a wide range of services including education, health care, shopping and employment for its residents.

“The shop frontage initiative, which is a part of the overall funding package, has been a great success with almost 80 shop owners availing of this assistance. My Department’s funding has levered in investment from both private sector businesses and Banbridge District Council.”

The Banbridge Revitalisation Project which commenced in June 2014 includes funding from Banbridge District Council, Local traders and businesses as well as the Department for Social Development.

The Minister added: “I am convinced that the improvements will make Banbridge more appealing, help existing businesses to improve their capacity to trade and will contribute to the long term viability and prosperity of the town.”

Catriona Regan, Director of Leisure and Development said: “The Council welcomes the additional financial support for the Banbridge Revitalisation project which has been announced by the Department for Social Development today.

“The funding will allow further support for shop front grants in the town centre and will directly assist the business community to make improvements to their property ensuring that Banbridge remains a competitive commercial location during a difficult time for the high street.

“Over the past two years the Banbridge Revitalisation project has successfully delivered on a number of initiatives including shop front grants, arts festival events, pop up arts activities and window vinyl’s for vacant properties; over the next two months free town centre wifi and visitor welcome signage will also be introduced to the town centre as part of the project.”
