Police can confirm that an 18-year old female has died following a road traffic collision on the Portaferry Road, Newtownards, last night, Sunday 10 August.
She was the driver of a silver coloured Peugeot car that was involved in a collision with a blue coloured Audi shortly before 8.30pm. The male driver and passenger of the Audi were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the Poratferry Road around the time of the collision to contact Collision Investigation Unit at Steeple Police Station or local police in Newtownards on the non-emergency number 101.
The Portaferry Road remains closed at this time. McCarthy Saddened By DeathAlliance Strangford MLA Kieran McCarthy has expressed his condolences following the death of a young woman in a road accident on the Portaferry Road outside Newtownards on Sunday night.
He said: “I am deeply saddened that another life has been lost on our roads. I would like to send my condolences to her family and friends at what must be an extremely difficult time for them.
“We must do more to improve road safety and ensure that no more lives are lost.
“I would urge all road users to take extra precautions when they are out on the road and to be vigilant of others.”
