Transport Minister Michelle McIlveen has given support to the Down Community Transport (DCT) group at the public launch of its 2016/2017 Strategy for North Down and Ards.
Launched in Ballywalter (Monday 14 March), DCT set out its plans for the coming year. The voluntary and community group aims to raise awareness of its local ‘dial-a-lift’ service; increase membership and provide even greater transport support to the local community; and attract more voluntary Social Car and Self Drive drivers.
Attending the launch, Michelle McIlveen said: “I would like to thank everyone involved with Down Community Transport for the vital service they offer to its members living in the less accessible and more remote areas of North Down.
“The availability of reliable transport helps to reduce the social isolation experienced by many people living away from public transport routes. I congratulate DCT on the launch of their strategy, which is set to have a positive impact on the quality of life for many people in the North Down and Ards area.”
Deborah Boden, the new Manager of Down Community Transport, said: “Community Transport continues to be an essential rural service. We provide affordable access to local services through our Dial-A-Lift service and we can provide affordable access to non-local services through our Volunteer Social Car Scheme. We will continue to provide group hire and self drive for member groups from with the community and voluntary sector.”
