SDLP MLA Colin McGrath has said:” I hosted a productive meeting with NI Water regarding the ongoing and long-standing issues in respect of odours and drainage in these areas.
Commenting, the South Down MLA said: “Last week, I along with the local community representatives met with the Customer Field Manager for NI Water in Cathedral View, Downpatrick.
At this meeting I repeated my concerns and that of residents regarding flooding and foul smells which has been repeated in this area.
“NI Water explained that this sewerage line runs through other parts of the town where there are also issues – notably Greencare’s, Bishopsbrae and the Flying Horse area.
“As a result of this meeting, an action plan is to be introduced to clear the sewerage line by installing monitoring equipment and then hosing equipment with a view to identifying and addressing this long-standing problem.
“I look forward to seeing this work on site and hope that it improves the lives of those living in these areas. No-one should have to endure repeated foul odours. Everyone deserves to live in peace and free from such foul smells.”
