Re-vamped public spaces delight Castleview tenants in Killyleagh.
Neighbourhood spaces in the Castleview area of Killyleagh have been completely transformed by the Housing Executive.
£35,000 was invested in recent upgrades and the makeover consisted of removing old brick planters, paving slabs and fixing a broken streetlight.
Railings were painted, new brick pavers laid and shrubs have been planted in timber containers.
Grass, new fencing and trees also now create an impressive, modern space for Castleview tenants to enjoy.
Consultations with local tenants were held in the local community centre prior to the work being carried out to keep them informed and to gather new ideas.
Liam Gunn, the Housing Executive’s Area Manager for South Down, said: “There were some issues with anti-social behaviour in this area before the improvement works took place and we wanted to improve the appearance of the area for the benefit of local residents.
“Our Downpatrick Patch Team Leader, Bronagh Magorrian and Neil Andrews, our Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, worked very hard to bring this project to fruition.
“We wanted to look at reimaging this space so we could give something back to the local community.
“Everyone can see how well it now looks and the community has also been very supportive of the scheme
“As we gradually emerge lockdown and into the warmer months, we hope local tenants are able to enjoy their new and improved space.”
