The Award-Winning St Patrick’s Choral Society are returning to the beautiful surroundings of The Great Hall at the Downshire Estate during the coming Halloween week with an exciting local premiere to entertain families over the spooky holiday.
Fuelled by Faust and fertiliser, ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’ is a charming, kooky and hilarious 1950’s musical comedy. With a book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, music by Alan Menken and based on the film by Roger Corman with a screenplay by Charles Griffith, it is one of the longest running off-Broadway shows of all time.
St Patrick’s strive to bring local audiences something fresh and entertaining each season and this year is no exception. Chairman Brian McElroy said: “As a local community group, we are especially interested in putting together a seasonal programme that will both entertain our faithful supporters and members alike, whilst also being able to introduce new shows that have not necessarily been performed before on the stage of The Great Hall ensuring that the level of entertainment that we provide to the local community is always fresh and exciting”.
This will be the first time that ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ will have been performed by the local theatre group and they are extremely excited to be bringing it to a local stage for the first time.
The production will be staged on Halloween week, tying the spooky nature of the production in with the communities Halloween celebrations. Musical Director Matthew Campbell said: “There is always a great buzz leading up to any production, however, there is something especially exciting about the prospect of performing this wonderful musical over Halloween week.
“It is a great way to get involved with the community celebrations whilst also providing families with something fun and quirky to do over the mid-term break”.
After the success of their recent production of ‘Evita’, St Patrick’s Choral Society are hard at work in rehearsals putting the finishing touches to this fun filled score ensuring a high standard production for audiences to enjoy all week long!
Little Shop Of Horrors will run at The Great Hall Downhsire from Thursday 2 to Saturday 4 November at 7.30pm with an extra matinee performance on the 4 November at 2.30pm.
