BBC Children in Need’s 2015 Appeal has launched, and this year the Charity is asking people across the UK and in Northern Ireland to dress up as their childhood hero to help make a difference to young lives.
To mark the official launch of BBC Children in Need’s 2015 campaign Sir Terry Wogan, Fearne Cotton, Nick Grimshaw, Tess Daly, Rochelle Humes, Dermot O’Leary and Sophie Ellis-Bextor have come together to galvanise Northern Ireland to dress up as their childhood heroes.
BBC Children in Need’s celebrity friends chose a hero from their childhood to launch the 2015 campaign, the celebrities choice of childhood heroes include an Arctic Explorer, a Dame, a Superhero and a Cowboy! BBC Children in Need’s Lifetime President, Sir Terry Wogan, is calling for people across Northern Ireland to follow in his footsteps by spending a day dressed as their own childhood hero, all to raise money for BBC Children in Need.
Speaking of the launch Sir Terry said: “Whether you want to bake some cakes, put on a quiz, ramble across the countryside or go back to your childhood and dig out your favourite fancy dress like me; please do your bit for BBC Children in Need this year. Every penny of your support will go to make a real difference.”
BBC Children in Need spends the money raised by the Appeal to make a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people, right here in Northern Ireland and all across the UK. BBC Children in Need currently funds 215 projects to the value of £7,791,850 throughout Northern Ireland. Being a hero for BBC Children in Need this year would help fund even more projects, such as Harmony Community Trust in Kilclief, County Down. With a grant of £84,714 over three years, this project offers residential breaks and a summer arts programme to disadvantaged children from across NI, developing confidence and building friendships.
In addition to the Charity’s childhood hero campaign, a whole host of famous faces have also come together to get the public fundraising this year. Peter Andre, Joey Essex, Sarah-Jane Crawford, Marvin Humes, Greg James, Union J, Alex Jones and Matt Baker are encouraging people up and down the UK to get involved in a range of fundraising activities from bake sales and quizzes, to rambles across the countryside, all to raise money for BBC Children in Need.
David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need said: “Whatever you do, whether it is a day spent dressed as your childhood hero, a bake sale at work or a ramble with friends it will help BBC Children in Need give children and young people right here in the UK the childhood they deserve.”
