Downpatrick Green Party candidate Declan Walsh calls for votes to improve life for all
The Green Party NI is standing candidates across Northern Ireland and in the County Down town of Downpatrick Declan Walsh has hopes of claiming one of the five seats up for grabs.
With a resurgence of the Greens in the English local government elections last week, the Northern Ireland Greens would like to see a strong increase in their vote given the urgent need for climate action.
Downpatrick Green Party candidate Declan Walsh said: “I’m excited to announce that I have been selected to stand as the Green Party candidate for Downpatrick DEA in this year’s local elections.
“I’m proud to be standing in the area in which I live.
|The reason why I am standing is because I know Green councillors make a significant difference to their communities.
“We are in the midst of a climate emergency and more Green voices are needed to push the council to ensure that we have an equitable transition to a zero carbon economy that does not punish the least well off for the mistakes of the wealthy.
“For too long councils have prioritised big developers over local people.
“Greens are known for working hard to scrutinise and improve our planning system so it delivers for us all rather than the profit of a few.
“People who live in areas with Green councillors know the difference those councillors can make and I intend to live up to that reputation.”
Declan Walsh added: “Greens believe in greater transparency and openness in local government. I want to be a councillor embedded in their community, to work as a community activist for everyone.
“I believe in supporting our essential community groups at this hugely difficult time, so that their work for our communities can be as effective as possible.
“With your help we can create an environmentally and economically sustainable place to live and make a fairer society that strengthens community and environment that provides abetter quality of life for all.”
