Party in the Park celebrates 100 years of the Mourne Wall
The SDLP’s Newcastle Councillor Laura Devlin and a Mourne’s area representative are encouraging as many families as possible to join in the fun at the Party in the Park.
“The event is on Sunday 14th August to celebrate a 100 Years of the Mourne Wall being completed.
Councillor Devlin said: “NI Water’s Party in the Park is a terrific opportunity for all of us to come together and celebrate a century of the Mourne Wall here in the heart of County Down.
“Just recently NI Water committed to a further £2.5million spend to help protect and preserve this incredible part of our heritage for us and future generations to be able to enjoy.
“The family fun day that is planned for Sunday 15th August from 1pm to 5pm in the Silent Valley Mountain Park promises to be a great day for all the family to enjoy with live music on offer and fun activities for all age groups.
“Particularly in these difficult times there has never been a more important time from people of all backgrounds to come together, to enjoy each other’s company and have some fun.”
Mourne’s representative Dominic O’Reilly also said: “When you consider that the Mourne Wall runs 22miles long and spans across 7 of our mountains, it draws people from all over the world every year to see this absolute marvel.
“It is something which those of us who were born and raised in the Mournes take great pride in and celebrate as part of our heritage.
“In celebrating the centenary year it will draw people from all backgrounds together once more and we can each share the tail end of the summer together.
“I really look forward to attending on Sunday and Laura and I would encourage as many people as possible to join us at it.”
