Down Arts Centre will finish 2016 with two fantastic live performances. The ever popular annual Christmas Pantomime will present ‘Old Mother Hubbard’s Crazy Christmas’ on Friday 9 November and ‘The Legend of Luke Kelly’ will pay tribute to Irish folk icon Luke Kelly on Saturday 10 December.
Centre Stage Theatre Company will be the talent behind ‘Old Mother Hubbard’s Crazy Christmas’ Pantomime. This classic tale presents Mother Hubbard, with her faithful dog Growler, and her willing helpers Little Jack Horner and Old King Cole run a very posh Bed and Breakfast.
Old Mother Hubbard makes Santa a Christmas pudding and this together with Growler’s bone is stored in her magic cupboard. Then a sneaky Witch with a passion for sugar turns up and suddenly the cupboard is bare. Little Jack Horner and Old King Cole do their best to help but maybe with a little help from the children in the audience, Growler will get his bone, Santa will get his Christmas pudding and the Witch will get what she deserves. Don’t miss this hilarious version of an all-time children’s favourite.
‘Old Mother Hubbard’s Crazy Christmas’ Pantomime starts at 7pm and tickets are £7 for adults and £5 for children/concession.
‘The Legend of Luke Kelly’ on Saturday 10 December will celebrate the memory and music of a true Irish musical legend. On 30 January 1984 it was said that the whole of Ireland grieved the early death of Dubliner Luke Kelly.
The tribute is presented by Chris Kavanagh, a Dublin singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who was raised on Irish music and has been singing Irish folk songs since he was three years old. He learned to play the piano by ear when he was five and his love and passion for Luke Kelly’s music led him to learn to play the five string long neck banjo in 2001.
‘The Legend of Luke Kelly’ starts at 8pm and tickets are £15 and £12 for concession.
World class live performances will continue in Down Arts Centre during 2017, and highlight already include Jake O’Kane on Saturday 4 February, Neil Delamere on Sunday 5 March and a fantastic St Patrick’s Night headliner, Give My Head Peace Friday 17 March.
