This week was to be the last contribution by Michael McClean who has informed us so brilliantly and eloquently over the past number of years using this piece to keep us informed of all club affairs writes Brian Cunningham.
He explained to the committee that he felt he needed a rest. He needed to re-charge the batteries and spend a wee bit more time with Teresa and his ailing mother. He really had a cult following with all waiting weekly to read the match reports, the various club meeting reports, dates of functions, fundraisers and off course club deaths to be reported on. How ironic then that this week our notes start with the sad news on the passing of Kathleen McClean mother of our esteemed PRO Martin McClean.
Like so many mothers Kathleen McClean was by all who knew her a quite extraordinary woman. Widowed at such a young age with Martin and Bridget to raise, she was unwavering in her determination to raise a family as her husband Pat would have wanted. As Martin told this scribe on so many occasions she gave them both everything. And, as is always the case with the circle of life, as Kathleen aged, so the roles were reversed with Martin and Bridget dedicating their lives to looking after their mother. When you visited the wake house of course there was sadness but also a sense of love and pride in the life of such a wonderful lady by the many relatives and friends who called. To Martin, Bridget and the extended family circle the executive committee and membership offer their deepest sympathies.
The clubs AGM is this Thursday 13 November in our clubrooms beginning at 7.30pm and all members are encouraged to attend. Please come along.
