Castlewellan GAC Notes For 26 October 2014

* If you go into our club any night of the week you may find someone dressed in an odd way. So we have decided why not formalise it and make it a bit of fun writes Martin McClean.

In conjunction in with Castlewellan FC we are running a fancy dress night in our club rooms this Saturday night 1st November. This is a joint fundraiser for both clubs with prizes and drinks promos on the night. Let’s make it a night to remember. The theme is TV & Movies. Let’s dress up, come along and have an awesome night. We expect this to be a big and busy night so get your kit on early! Get out through the door early and into the club early! Simples!

* An Dun agonisingly lost the Mageean Cup Final to Cross & Passion at the Dub last Friday night by the narrowest of margins. By all accounts this was an absolute cracker of a game played out with a fierce competitive edge. It is strange to say commiserations to our representatives on the An Dun team Sean Hardy and Shane Smyth when 48 hours later Sean and Shane along with Joe Cunningham all played on the Liatriom Fontenoys team that beat Ballygalget in the Minor ‘A’ Hurling League final in Downpatrick on Sunday. It is the first time that particular trophy has found its way outside the Ards. Congratulations to our lads and of course the Fontenoys on their double success this year as both league and championship wins were historic occasions.

* Castlewellan had representatives in Aoife Keown and Anna Rogan who played on the Down team in the Camogie/Women’s Shinty Challenge Match in Pairc Esler last Saturday. It resulted in a win for Scotland but it was a memorable occasion for all those who represented their clubs and county in what was a great occasion

* There are different ways to play our club lotto. You can visit www.castlewellangac.com and follow the links to play on-line. There are our usual outlets and Lennon’s Garage, Bin 34, Frankie’s, Top Marty’s, Savage’s and Maginns. There are now new lotto banks in Walkers, JR’s and Cunningham Bros. There are boxes in which you can place pre-printed envelopes which are lotto tickets. You simply place your envelope with your money in the boxes. This is an easy way to support your club. The club is grateful and appreciative for all the help and support it receives from our community.

* The Town open their Under-21 league campaign with a defeat to Burren. The match was originally played last Thursday night but was sensibly abandoned at half-time by referee Shane Lowey due to an injury to Rory Burns. Thankfully Rory has recovered from his injury. We are grateful for all the help from both sets of management on the night and both sets of players who assisted Rory. We are also appreciative of the message of support Rory received since the match. It was replayed on Sunday past with Burren winning the game.

* From next Wednesday 5 November we will be holding our 6 week winter coaching programme in St Malachy’s High School and we  invite all the children from pre – school year through to P7 both boys and girls to attend. Registration for children up to and including P4 will take place at 6pm and for pupils from P5 to P7 at 7pm in the sports hall in St Malachy’s HS and the cost for the 6 week course is £5. We look forward to seeing you there. Everyone is welcome.

* Slimming World at Castlewellan GAC on Tuesday from 5.30pm and 7.30pm and Wednesday at 9.30am. Any queries contact Lorna 07531595280.
