Downpatrick area Sinn Féin Councillor Naomi Bailie has called on Roads Service to introduce measures to help tackle persistent flooding on the Ardglass Downpatrick Road beside the Ballee crossroads.
The area lies on a stretch of road along the Downpatrick Road and is often covered with lying water in times of heavy rainfall.
Cllr Bailie said: “I’ve been contacted by a number of local residents concerned about the persistent nature of the flooding and that it is clearly a danger to road users.
“The flooded area itself lies over more than half the road, so when drivers approach often they are forced to swerve across the centreline and into the lane of oncoming traffic. I have been advised of a number of ‘near misses’ at the site where drivers have thankfully but only just avoided collisions.
“I understand that current drainage measures at the site of the Donard View WWtW are insufficient in times of heavy rainfall, with drains are continually clogged due to road debris and other material.
“I have therefore requested that Roads Service install additional drainage at the site which will alleviate pressure off the current drains.”
