The aim of the course is to produce a dog that will walk and behave in a controlled manner on the lead, return to handler when called, will stay in one position on command and will allow its owner to clean, groom and inspect it.

The course also aims to help handlers understand and train their canine companion.

Borough Inspector for Ards Borough Council, Dawn Phillips, said:

“The Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award is part of an extensive educational and information programme provided by Ards Borough Council. Other programmes include talks to schools and youth groups, the Green Dog Walkers campaign, anti-dog fouling and litter promotional campaigns and provision of free poop bags. A well trained dog and educated owner helps the Council with our ongoing efforts to enforce dog control across the borough.”

The seven week Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award Scheme dog training programme will run in Comber Learning Centre at Parkway, Comber and is £35 per dog.
