Mr Rogers said: “I had lobbied the Roads Service department regarding resurfacing work on the main Clough to Castlewellan roadway and also the need for Mary Street in Castlewellan to be resurfaced. I am delighted that this work has been given the go-ahead and will take place before the end of this financial year as well as the remainder of the work on the Clough to Dundrum route. This is positive news for our local infrastructure. “I again raised the need for the roundabout at the junction of the Castlewellan/Dundrum and Shimna Roads to be rejigged. As well as additional crossing facilities on out the Dundrum Road in the vicinity of Corrigs Avenue and the Castlewellan Road opposite Tescos. “Plans for a cycle lane from Castlewellan to Newcastle are now progressing. This is an issue that my party colleague former Cllr Eamonn ONeill had raised during his time in Council and I am glad the scheme is shaping up. “After the collision along Annsborough’s Ballylough Road last spring, I met with Roads Officials and the PSNI, as well as members of Annsborough Community Forum to discuss the evident Road Safety issues at this location. The Roads Service has approved flashing ‘school’ signs and is continuing their investigation into a traffic calming scheme. Again, this is very welcome and I look forward to seeing the full benefit on site. “I also took the opportunity to raise matters at Tollymore Brae in Newcastle and the need for it to be fully adopted into the roads network and I understand that this is a work in progress with contractors due on site in the New Year.”
