AT a meeting of the Alliance executive yesterday, Down District Councillor Patrick Clarke was appointed as their South Down spokesman.
Although Councillor Clarke was tight-lipped about Alliance’s party plans in the South Down electoral constituencies for the next RPA Council election, the Assembly and Westminster elections, it appears that the new kid on the bloc is being groomed by Alliance for greater things.
Commenting of the recent decision over the planning approval of the Narrow Water bridge, Councillor Clarke said: “I welcome this new bridge across to Carlingford which will open up the area greatly for business and tourism.
“This is fantastic news on a project that will bring much needed benefits to the South Down area creating jobs in the short term and tourism in the long term.
“The Alliance Party is dedicated to creating a future without divisions. This move today will serve to increase greater community interaction across the border, by opening up the Mourne area to people travelling each way.
“I wholeheartedly welcome the decision by the Minister today and look forward to seeing the benefits the area will enjoy once the project is completed.”
