Volunteering Opportunities With The NSPCC

THE NSPCC is showcasing the wide variety of volunteering opportunities available for people living in Co Down at an information day on Monday 22 October.

Existing volunteers will be speaking about their experiences and attendees will have the chance to chat to key volunteer coordinators and browse stands for information on the various opportunities available.

Shaun Friel, head of the ChildLine Schools Service and coordinator of the volunteering event, said: “No matter how much time or experience you have, we have a volunteering opportunity to suit everyone.xa0 We would encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering, whether it be to fill some free time or to get experience in a chosen field, to come along to one of the meetings and find out what area would suit them best.”

The NSPCC is looking for volunteers for five different areas which include manning the ChildLine helpline, supporting young witnesses in court, giving presentations to primary school pupils to educate them about keeping safe messages, helping with fundraising events and giving information to midwives at RVH for a programme to protect newborns.

NSPCC volunteer Ann Donnelly said: “Having taught for thirty six years, enjoyed every minute and learned a lot from the children, I felt I owed them so much. I want to help them build a more secure and carefree future for themselves – a future where they can realise their full potential, whatever their circumstances.”

The event takes place at 11am in the NSPCC service centre, Lanyon Building, BT15 3HN and should last from 45 minutes to and hour.xa0 People interested in attending can email [email protected] or call 020 3222 4182 to register their interest.
