£85,000 Road Improvements On A22 Killyleagh Road To Downpatrick Set To Begin

Resurfacing work costing £85,000 will begin next week on the A22 Killyleagh Road Downpatrick.

dn_screenThe Northern Ireland Executive funded road improvement scheme is expected to begin on Tuesday 31 May. The resurfacing of approximately 300 metres of the road and the raising of the road level at an area prone to flooding, is expected to be complete, with the road fully reopened, by Friday 10 June.

A Department for Infrastructure TransportNI spokesman said: “This £85,000 scheme represents a significant investment in the roads infrastructure in the Downpatrick area and once work is complete, road users will quickly realise the long term benefits from the new road surface and a location less likely to experience significant flooding.”

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors the A22 Killyleagh Road will be closed from Tuesday 31 May to Friday 10 June between 9.15am and 4.30pm, excluding Sunday 5 June.

Well signed diversions will be in place via A7 to Downpatrick to Crossgar road and the B7 and B6 Crossgar to Killyleagh Road.

TransportNI has planned the delivery of the improvements to keep disruption to a minimum, however, delays should be expected and drivers are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.

As with all improvements of this nature extreme weather can impact on the completion date. TransportNI will advise the public of any unexpected change to the schedule.
