A woman’s half-clothed body was found on the east end of Tyrella Beach on Tuesday 2 February at around 3pm by a man walking his dog.
The area was quickly sealed off by police assisted by HM Coastguard as an investigation was put in place.
South Down MP Margaret Ritchie has extended her condolences to the family and friends of the woman who was found dead on Tyrella beach.
She said: “The news has brought immense shock and sadness to the local community. Our thoughts and prayers are with this woman’s family and friends to whom I wish to extend my deepest sympathies.
“I commend the great work of our emergency services including the Coastguard at this tragic time.”
The PSNI are currently liaising with the Garda as it may be that of the woman who went missing in South Dublin in mid-January.
