Daisy Jones from Kirkistown Primary School and Sophie Brown from Kircubbin Integrated Primary School are the winners of a boat drawing competition organised by Ards and North Down Borough Council. Over 100 local school children took part in the competition that tasked participants across two age categories – 4 – 7 years and 8 – 11 years – to draw a picture of a vessel.

The winners were announced on 19 June at Portaferry Visitor Information Centre. The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Alderman Alan Graham, said: “The competition was very appropriate for our Council area as we have one of the longest coastlines in Northern Ireland as well as a significant fishing heritage in areas such as Portavogie. The high volume and standard of entries made judging difficult for those involved, but in the end several pictures stood out.” Prizes in the 4 – 7 years age category were awarded to the winner, Daisy Jones from Kirkistown Primary School and runners up, Lorcan Trainor from St. Marys Primary School and Charlie Sweeney from Portaferry Integrated Primary School. Sophie Brown Kircubbin Integrated Primary School was the winner and Emma Cusick from Kircubbin Integrated Primary School was the runner up in the 8 – 11 years age group. The local schools that took part were: St. Marys Primary School, Portaferry; Portaferry Integrated Primary School; Kircubbin Integrated Primary School; and Kirkistown Primary School.
