The golfing greats will be out in force at Bright Castle Golf Club once again this coming June to raise vital funds for deserving local charities.
Rowallene Councillors Billy Walker (DUP) and Terry Andrews (SDLP) has already ran a number of successful fund-raising events over the past two years for local charities and this year they are doing things a little bit differently. Now they are inviting as many golfers as possible to participate.
Cllr Billy Walker said: “Each year we have ran a number of events but this year we are combining our charity effort into one main event at Bright Castle Golf Club on 9th June.
“So if anyone wants to come along an support our causes on the day they will be very welcome. To date we have raised almost £18,000 and this tournament will push the total up to over the £20,000 mark.
“We will present cheques to six charities for £500 each. They are: Mainstay DRP, Newcastle RNLI, Life Changes Changes Lives, Home-Start Down District, and the Killyleagh and Crossgar Community Associations.
“Terry and I are delighted that local charities will be benefitting directly from our efforts. We very much recognise the sterling work that all of the charities do in our area and much of it is done through voluntary effort.”
Cllr Terry Andrews added: “If you can’t play on the day, you can sponsor a hole for £50 or one of the small competitions such as nearest the pin or longest drive. We were well supported last year and I hope everyone steps up to the plate again this time round.
“Billy and myself had never hit a golf ball until last year and it was really all a huge bit of fun for us both. It was certainly a challenge. To date we have had an eating and a baking competition, and dabbled in skiff rowing, cycling and boxing.
“This is a four ball golf tournament. You can register by phoning Bright Castle Golf Club on 028 44 841319 for tee times and bookings.
So get your clubs out of the cupboard and get ready for the Billy And Terry Annual Summer Golf Tournament. Join in the fun!
First tee off time – 8.30am.
