County Down community choir looks for new members.
Community choir Voices of Lecale is looking for new members. The choir has been running for 11 years and grew out of the popular Singers’ Circle night-class at Down Arts Centre.
The choir’s founder and Musical Director Laura Plummer said: “This is the time of the year again that people start to think about classes and clubs to join where they can develop or learn a new skill or hobby.
“Singing is one of the best things you can do for your health and wellbeing. And not only that, it’s a very social activity where you can quickly get to meet people and make new friends. You don’t have to be a Pavarotti or Mariah Carey either. All you need is to be able to ‘carry a tune’ and a willingness to give it a try.
“The choir is particularly keen for more men to come forward.
“Like many other mixed choirs we find that Northern Ireland men are a bit shy at the idea of joining a choir. But it’s painless, honest! We don’t do auditions.
“All you need to do is join the class at Down Arts Centre which meets on Wednesday evenings. You can just try it out for a while before deciding if you’d like to join the choir and get the opportunity to sing as part of the group in public”, added Laura.
Voices of Lecale community choir is a registered charity founded in 2007Â and has gone from strength-to-strength with 4 recorded albums of songs and performances at concerts, festivals and community venues throughout the Co. Down and Belfast area.
Since its formation in 2007 all profits have been donated to a range of worthwhile local charities and the total now stands at an impressive £28,000.
