UKIP Representative Alan Lewis has welcomed DRD Ministers Danny Kennedy’s recent confirmation of a review into the Roads Service decision-making process around the salting of roads.
He said: “On Monday 13 January the PSNI reported they had attended 42 RTC’s across Northern Ireland between 6-9am. Roads Service indicated when they became aware of the change in temperature they began gritting roads at 7am. A man lost his life in an early morning situation where the road could well have been iced up.” Myself and Cllr Henry Reilly have wroitten to the Roads Minister requesting the review into the decision process surrounding salting be carried out urgently.  It is clear something went badly wrong recently in South Down.  There were numerous RTC’s reported.  The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service have confirmed they responded to three RTC’s in one accident spate in South Down while PSNI have advised they attended numerous incidents throughout the district.”
