Local Tourism Industry Operators Discover South Down’s Hidden Gems
South Down tourism businesses and visitor information centre staff took part in a series of familiarisation trips to tourism destinations organised by Newry Mourne and Down District Council through March.
As part the Council’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable tourism development, enhance the visitor experience in the destination and foster collaboration within the industry, these familiarisation days showcased the diverse attractions, experiences and offerings available throughout the district.
From its rich heritage and vibrant culture to its delectable culinary offerings, there is an abundance of tourism experiences on offer and something for everyone to enjoy.
During the trips, industry members had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Mourne Gullion and Strangford.
They explored historic sites, took part in both indoor and outdoor activities and sampled the delicious local cuisine, gaining first-hand experience of the unique charm and hospitality of the area.
Participants also had the chance to network with fellow industry professionals, exchange ideas and forge valuable partnerships.
Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Valerie Harte said: “The purpose of the familiarisation tours was to create an awareness amongst the industry of what there is to do and see for visitors.
“The tours were more than just a sightseeing venture, they were a learning journey and extremely important as a catalyst for collaboration.
“As ambassadors for our area, it is essential to be well-informed about the attractions and amenities we have to offer visitors.
