On Thursday 22 October, SERC’s McNeill Room Restaurant held a coffee morning in aid of Cancer Research UK.
A huge congratulations goes to the Downpatrick team and SERC Hospitality students who raised a massive £415. The event was held from 10am, offering staff and members of the public tea, coffee and scrumptious homemade treats with all proceeds being donated to Cancer Research UK.
[caption id="attachment_59630" align="alignleft" width="390"] The SERC Hospitality students and staff in Downpatrick have raised funds for Cancer Research by running a coffee morning.[/caption]The coffee morning is part of Cancer Research’s ground-breaking Stand Up to Cancer initiative, which aims to accelerate innovative cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Lee Parr, Manageress of Downpatrick’s Cancer Research shop at St Patrick’s Avenue, said she was delighted the local teenagers were contributing to the campaign and added: “This was a fantastic fundraising event involving local youth, which is such an important age group for us to target”.
“Cancer Research in Downpatrick is always seeking donations including cash and good quality clothing as every donation is very gratefully received.”
Organiser of the event, SERC Hospitality tutor Michelle McCarthy, said: “I am delighted that the event was such a success. The students worked really hard and there was a great turnout from staff and local residents. We hope that the event will help raise awareness of the great work the charity does.”
