Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has urged residents in the Castlewellan Road area of Newcastle to be on continued alert after a number of homes have had break-ins through the summer.
Cllr Clarke said: “The dark nights are approaching and there has been growing concern that a number of homes are continuing to be staked out on a daily basis and I intend to meet with the PSNI Newcastle inspector in relation to my concerns on this issue. “I would appeal to the public to practice vigilance in the area in an effort to catch those involved and prevent further break-ins. It is also important that people make arrangements if they are heading off on breaks to have a neighbour or family member to keep an eye on their house whilst they are away. “I will be looking for this issue to be resolved as soon as possible and I would urge anyone with information or who may have seen anything to pass this to the PSNI. People like this cannot be allowed to prey on our community,” added Cllr Willie Clarke.
