SDLP Appoints Former Nurse And Businesswoman As Chair Of South Down Constituency Branch
The SDLP has appointed Sinéad Polland as the Chairperson of its new South Down Constituency Branch.
Sinéad was elected at a recent party AGM in the area.
She said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed as the SDLP’s new Chair in South Down.
“Our party has a long and proud tradition in this area stretching back to its formation.
“And it goes right up to the present day where our team of hardworking representatives give everything they have to tackle the issues that matter to local people.
“We are entering an extremely busy time for our party as we work to advance our renewed mission to end division and build a new Ireland.
“We have an important role to play in the planning and preparation for the building of an inclusive new nation.
“This nation will deliver more opportunity, greater investment and a better quality of life for everyone who lives here.
“I am looking forward to working with our South Down MLA Colin McGrath, our team of councillors, local representatives and members to showcase everything this area has to offer.
“And I’ll join in and fight the corner of those who need it most. As someone who has worked as both a nurse and business owner, I am tuned into the challenges facing families here.
“I hope to play my part as chair in delivering a better future for people in South Down.”
Originally from Belfast, Sinéad attended St Dominic’s High School and then studied nursing at University of Ulster.
She has worked in a variety of private and NHS healthcare settings, winning the I.H.C.P. Manager of the Year and being a finalist in the RCN Nurse of the Year.
Following the acquisition of her healthcare company in 2019 she briefly retired before returning to the NHS in spring 2020 to work in a variety of Covid settings in the South Eastern HSC Trust.
Sinéad Polland has two children. Her son Will studies Law and Politics and Rosemary studies Aerospace Engineering, both at QUB.
Sinéad served as Will’s election agent during the 2023 local council elections.
