Jim Shannon, DUP candidate for Strangford in the Westminster election, has called for the general public to let the PSNI have any information that is relevant to drugs in the Ards area.
He said: “Following a very high level drugs search across the Ards Peninsula that involved over 200 Customs and Police Officers, it is clear that there was a lot of information that influenced an operation of this magnitude.
“The search uncovered illegal drugs in some houses in the Ards Peninsula, after searches in Portavogie, Ballyhalbert and Kircubbin. It would seem that the PSNI were following a clear investigative focus that has brought results.
“If anyone has seen anything then please contact the PSNI, the scourge of drugs and the heartbreak that they bring must be brought to an end and that can only be done if we work together with the information and this is good news but more can and should be done to stop drugs from impacting our communities.”
