NI Water work done to Manse Road and McKenna Road, Kircubbin tearing up the road.
Jim Shannon MP has expressed dismay at the decision by NI Water to tear up the road between Manse Road and McKenna Road at Kircubbin “as it was resurfaced a few years ago and is still in a great state of repair,” says Jim Shannon, Strangford MP.
Some may argue you cannot make an omelette without breaking an egg. He added: “Cllr Edmond and I fought hard to get this stretch of Road resurfaced and not patched due to the heavy volume of traffic and wear on the road. The TNI truly did a great job.
“Whilst I acknowledge that the work may need to have been carried out, history shows that a patch job is not good enough on this stretch of road.
“I am asking TNI to ensure that if the work is essential and must be carried out now that a further resurfacing takes place. If patching is done, it is very clear that the road will deteriorate substantially in a quick way and this is simply not right.
“NI Water must be told that nothing less than the road returned to the state it was in prior to the work is acceptable.
Cllr Edmond said: “as soon as I got the notification from Council, I contacted TNI to underline my concern. This is a busy stretch of road and we need the surface to be of high standard.
“I have expressed my concern and am waiting to hear back what the plan of action is for the restoration of this road.”
