Shannon highlights need for urgent remedial work to be carried out to footpath in Belfast Road, Saintfield.
Jim Shannon MP has highlighted a huge pothole on the road that needs immediate attention.
He said: “I was carrying out my surgery at Saintfield when I was informed of a person tripping caused by a large hole in the footpath near to the bus stop on the Belfast Road Saintfield at old Watt McBriars Shop.
“I headed out to have a look and was shocked at the size of this hole. This is a busy wee area just down from the well-used bus stop. I
“It is little wonder that people have been tripping on this hazzard. I am shocked that serious injury hasn’t happened in what can be described as a crater.
“I have made inquiries as to who has responsibility for this – to TransportNI, local business owners and indeed Translink where the old bus station used to be and I will be urgently chasing this up to get remedial work done.
“When this crater fills with rain water it is difficult to see the depth of the puddle and it really is a danger to pedestrians.
“This must be addressed and repaired as a matter of urgency before there is a serious pedestrian injury.”
