Dear Editor,
Congratulations to Europe on Retaining the Ryder Cup.
Again the weekend’s golf had my at the edge of my seat and I have to admit that there was that creeping doubt that the Ryder Cup was not coming back to Europe with the team this time round after a bad second day.
And yet, the European team spirit pushed on through and secured the most nail-biting result in my memory. The news that McIlroy may miss his tee off time did not help my nerves but he got there in the back of a speeding police car. His nerve held solid and he played a great game.
Johnson managed to hold off McDowell and my stomach dropped again and yet the end result was well worth the roller coaster. Europe took the Ryder cup and the Americans were left wondering where it had been lost.
The European team of course had the drive and determination along with the talent, and making up a large section of the team were our own boys who yet again showed themselves to be the ultimate professionals that we all know they are!
I can’t wait for the next competition which again will consolidate Northern Ireland as the home of the world’s best golfers.
Yours,
