Shannon Congratulates Royal Mail Staff In Newtownards

Jim Shannon visit the Royal Mail depot in Newtownards over Christmas period

Strangford MP Jim Shannon has congratulated all the Royal Mail staff for their excellent work in getting the Royal Mail out to all houses and homes over the Christmas period.

Jim Shannon said: “On visiting the Post Office and Royal Mail sorting officers in Ards, I was amazed at the work being done.

“There are 77 people employed and with more to be employed in the New Year.

(l-r): Strangford MP Jim Shannon with Richard Connolly, Royal Mail Manager in Newtownards.

“Richard Connelly, the new manager is turning the Royal Mail office around and this was needed when we understand that there was a 30% increase of post perhaps due to the online shopping boom.

“The Ards sorting office has outgrown the present office and a move to a bigger space is needed and that is something that I will chase up with Royal Mail directly.

“They have 65 vans working out of the Ards Location – it just doesn’t add up – a move to a bigger space is needed now.

“The Royal Mail and Post Office in Ards with new staff are doing their best to take it from the difficulties of a few months ago to where we are now and hopefully even greater in the future.

“A move to a central location in Ards that brings together the centres in Comber and Jubilee Road and other smaller offices would be logical and will be something I will be pressing for.” added Jim Shannon.
