Spate Of Burglaries In South Down Say Police

Police are investigating a run of burglaries in the South Down area


Detectives in Newry are investigating a series of burglaries in the South Down area.

The burglaries occurred throughout the course of Sunday, 29th December and are being treated as potentially linked.

Detective Sergeant Johnston said: “Police received a report at approximately 6.40pm that a property had been entered in the Mourneview Park area of Kilkeel.

“Entry is understood to have been gained via the rear of the house that had been rummaged through. Enquiries are continuing to determine what, if anything, has been stolen.

Police have received reports of burglaries in the South Down area and are investigating to see if they are linked.

“At approximately 7.25pm police also received a report that two men dressed in dark clothing had entered a home in the Newtown Villas area of Rostrevor.

“They were disturbed by a woman who was in the property at the time, and fled via the back garden damaging a fence. Nothing was stolen.

“A third report was received at 7.40pm of a burglary at a house in the Meadowvale area of Newcastle.


“The patio door had been smashed and a bedroom was ransacked. A sum of cash and jewellery were stolen from the property.

“Enquiries are continuing today, Monday 30th December, and we are investigating the possibility that the same suspects were involved in these three reports.

“We are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam or other footage of these areas or noticed any suspicious vehicles.
