Jim Shannon MP delighted at Steel and Sons cup win for Comber Rec
Strangford MP Jim Shannon has welcomed the opportunity to hold the Steel and Son Cup that Comber Rec FC won on Christmas Day 2023.
He said: “The last time that Comber Rec FC won the Steel and Son Cup was back in 1991 when I was the Mayor of Ards Borough Council and in those days of course, I was just married a few years and had a whole head of hair.
“I retain fond memories of those days if not the curly black hair along with it. To be able to hold this much desired cup was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed savouring the weight of that symbol of success for Comber Rec FC this season.
“So well done to Comber Rec FC. I am proud to sponsor a match each year for this team – and it has been a long time between 1991/92 and now – hopefully it won’t be as long until they have the cup once more as they are definitely in form.”
