Following a series of beak-ons in Downpatrick last week, local councillor Naomi Bailie has called on residents to take care in Downpatrick in securing their cars, homes and possessions.
The Sinn Féin Councillor said a number of home-owners living in the Ardglass Road area of the town had reported thefts from their properties.

“The problem appears to be most acute in terms of garage break-ins at homes in the vicinity of Ardglass Road and Demesne Estate.
“It is hard to think of a more cowardly or shameful act than that of invading a person’s home with the intent of theft and my thoughts are with those affected by these recent acts.
“Thieves tend to choose properties that appear unoccupied, or not secure and allow them to work unseen and undetected.
“Sometimes we take it for granted that our homes are secure, but I would urge residents to take some time now to assess the security of your home and garages.
“Thieves have no respect for you or your property and  helping to catch them is the best way of safeguarding your own property and your neighbours.
“I would appeal to anyone with information or who may have seen anything suspicious to pass this to the PSNI on their non-emergency line at 101. People like this cannot be allowed to prey on our community,”  added Councillor Bailie.
