Dan Rice Memorial Hall clock repair scheduled for October welcomed by SDLP
The SDLP’s Colin McGrath MLA and representative Hugh Gallagher have welcomed confirmation that works to repair and restore the clock of the Dan Rice Hall in Drumaness will be completed in October.
Commenting, the South Down MLA has said: “The Dan Rice Memorial Hall is a truly historic site in South Down, and continues to offer much to the local community to this very day.
“Whether it be its use for the snooker club, its hall or meeting rooms, it is used on a regular basis by those from the area and indeed many from outside the area too.
“The clock tower has been an ongoing issue, and one which the SDLP have worked on for a number of years to see repaired. I am delighted to say that this will now proceed.
“I want to pay tribute to the local Drumaness community who have worked collectively to see this delivered.
“Maintaining and preserving our historic landmarks and monuments for future generations is something we should all be concerned about, and I look forward to seeing these works finally come to fruition.
Slieve Croob representative Hugh Gallagher also commented saying: “This is definitely an issue which the local community need to see progress on.
“I in my former role as a Councillor, along with former councillors Mark Murnin and Anne McAleenan all worked tirelessly to get this delivered.
“Today’s news is a testament to that work. Once these works are completed in October, this will continue to be a landmark in the Drumaness and South Down area.”
