McGrath briefs Ardpatrick residents on ongoing works
SDLP South Down MLA Colin McGrath and Downpatrick Councillor Conor Galbraith have updated local residents at Ardpatrick on efforts to address infrastructure issues at Ardpatrick Avenue and highlighted the need for further improvements.
Conlin McGrath said: “The issues at Ardpatrick are ones which have presented many times to our local Councillors and and to myself.
“Conor Galbraith and I wanted to take this opportunity to visit local residents, and to update them on the work which we have been involved in to see improvements to the local area.
“It has been positive to see some of the larger potholes having been filled in, but there are other defects which remain and these are the ones we are particularly keen to see addressed.”
Councillor Galbraith said: “There is a concern that given the particularly cold weather that there is a lack of preparedness here.
“With uneven surfaces and road defects, these can be amplified by colder weather and icy conditions.
“Therefore, it is really essential that DFI addresses these surface defects before they become deeper and more expensive to repair.
“I appreciate the constraints they are working under but that should not be to the detriment of local people.”
Mr McGrath added: “Conor and I have written to DFI again to emphasise these issues, to request a full assessment of the area and to address the defects which are presenting here.
“I would hope they can see the severity of the matter and address these before they become more pronounced and ultimately more costly to repair.”
