The Christmas lights switch-on event is set for Sunday 3rd December 2023
The Downpatrick’s Christmas Lights switch on event will take place on Sunday 3rd December 2023.
Dan McEvoy, Chairman of the Downpatrick Community Collective, said: “We are looking forward to having a great Christmas in Downpatrick this year to help raise our spirits after the recent floods in the town.
“St Patrick’s Square is the location and the festive fun begins from 2.00pm onwards! George Jones will take the festival stage from 2.00pm to 4.00pm and he will be followed by the Abba Sensations band.
“For the Christmas lights switch-on event we have a super range of festive, interactive activities planned.
“These include the craic from George Jones, a performance by the super ABBA Sensations, Santa’s grotto, games, bag making, jar printing, balloon artist, street artists and entertainers, a mini fair ground and a lot more. It will be great fun for all the family.
“The actual switch on is at 6.00pm with the event closing with a festive firework display. It’s definitely going to be a great event for Downpatrick.
“On behalf of the Downpatrick Community Collective and the people of the Downpatrick area, we would like thank Newry and Mourne District Council for their great support in getting this event off the ground.
“As many people will be aware, we are going to have a fabulous Christmas Market event to help the local traders affected by the recent flood as part of the festive celebration.
“The local businesses either directly or indirectly impacted by the recent flooding will be trading from the marquee, offering a fine range of products and services. You just might pick up a few bargains for Christmas.
“We would encourage everyone to come along and support our local traders at this market event in the centre of Downpatrick.
“The market will run from 1.00-6.00pm in a large marquee marquee behind the Grove Shopping Centre.

Dan added: “We are delighted to confirm that our County Town’s Christmas Tree Light switch on event is this coming Sunday 3rd December and St Patrick’s Square. T
“The festive fun begins from 2.00pm onwards! The evergreen, popular George Jones will take the festival stage from 2.00pm to 4.00pm and he will be followed by the Abba Sensations band.
1.00pm to 6.00pm – Dpk Retail Market from Marquee.
2.00pm to 6.00pm George Jones (radio personality) followed by Abba Sensations (live band).
2.00pm – 6.00pm Mini funfair rides.
3.00pm to 6.00pm – Santa Grotto – come and meet Santa, balloon artist, street artists, KRA interactive family games, Unicorn and Reindeer rides in the square, Xmas Jar printing, and bag printing.
6.00pm – Santa comes to the festival stage along with NM&D Vice Chairperson Cllr Gareth Sharvin, accompanied by Downpatrick Pipers from the Downshire Pipe Band.
6.15pm approx. – The Finale – Firework Spectacular.
